Mário Cruz (b.1987) is an independent photographer, editor and curator who focuses on social injustice and human rights issues. He is the author of two books: Talibes - Modern Day Slaves (2016), about slavery in fake quranic schools in Senegal; and Living Among What's Left Behind (2019), a portrait of the communities living on the banks of the Pasig River, considered biologically dead, in the Philippines. These works have earned him multiple accolades, including two World Press Photo awards (2016 and 2019) and best photography exhibition (2020) by the Portuguese Society of Authors for Living Among What's Left Behind, an international exhibit which was on show in several Portuguese cities and overseas. He is the founder and director of NARRATIVA in Lisbon.
